A classic Discovery, completely rebuilt
Ernie began as a 1999 Land Rover Discovery Series II ready for a complete transformation. Rather than simply refreshing what was already there, the goal was to restore the truck as a whole reworking its mechanical systems, renewing the interior, refining the exterior, and giving it a new powertrain capable of carrying the Discovery well into its next chapter.
Rebuilt for a New Generation
At the heart of the restoration is a Chevrolet 350ci Small Block V8 with Vortec heads, producing 315 horsepower, paired with a 4L80E 4-speed automatic transmission. The conversion is managed by Holley Sniper EFI and ignition management, supported by a FiTech in-tank fuel delivery system, custom engine and transmission mounts, a 4L80E-to-LT230 adapter, custom driveshafts, fabricated headers and exhaust, and a revised cooling system. The chassis was brought up to match, with heavy-load rear springs, new shock components, refreshed steering, new brake lines, stainless brake hoses, and a reworked fuel system completing the mechanical transformation.
The restoration continued across the body and cabin. Ernie received a complete body and paint restoration, front and rear bumpers, protective lamp covers, refreshed lighting, new Land Rover lettering, and steel wheels with wheel covers. Inside, the seats were reupholstered in leather, with seat-heater elements and a fully reupholstered headliner, while a Boss Apple CarPlay head unit brought modern usability to the cabin. The result is a Discovery that retains the character of the Series II while being thoroughly renewed underneath and throughout.
Ernie brings together the best of both worlds: the unmistakable character of a classic Discovery with the engineering, power, and refinement of a comprehensively restored and re-engineered vehicle. A classic Discovery, rebuilt for the road ahead.
